Built to perform. Accountable for every megawatt-hour.
Every system is designed around your asset, your grid and your target revenue streams. From connection voltage and grid code compliance to cycling profile and dispatch logic — delivered on a fully turnkey basis with long-term operational accountability.
Full-cycle engineering for utility-scale storage
Nexion works alongside developers and asset owners from first concept through to long-term operation — grid integration, system architecture, cycling optimisation, grid code compliance and dispatch logic. Every technical decision made to maximise asset performance and revenue.
The right architecture for your use case
Power, duration, chemistry and dispatch logic are selected based on your grid connection, target services market and revenue model — not on what is easiest to supply. Every architecture is optimised to maximise the economic value of your stored energy.
Short-duration BESS
10 – 100 MW / 1 – 2h
Optimised for frequency services and intraday arbitrage. High cyclability and sub-200 ms response make these systems the workhorse of ancillary services markets across Europe.
Use cases
- FCR/aFRR frequency regulation
- Intraday arbitrage
- Congestion management
- TSO/DSO ancillary services
Chemistry
LFP (LiFePO₄)
Cycles
>6,000 cycles
RTE
>88%
Response
<200 ms
Medium-duration BESS
50 – 300 MW / 2 – 4h
The natural pairing for solar and wind assets. Captures curtailed generation, smooths the output curve and enables participation in capacity markets — turning intermittent production into a dispatchable, bankable revenue stream.
Use cases
- Solar and wind integration
- Curtailment reduction
- Capacity markets
- Substation peak shaving
Chemistry
LFP / NMC
Cycles
>4,000 cycles
RTE
>86%
Duration
2 – 4 hours
Long-duration BESS
100 – 500+ MW / 4 – 8h
Bulk storage for grids with high renewable penetration. Shifts generation across the day, supports grid stability at transmission level and enables large-scale renewable assets to operate as firm, dispatchable capacity.
Use cases
- Load shifting
- Island grid support
- Large-scale renewable integration
- Critical substation backup
Chemistry
LFP / VRFB
Cycles
>3,000 cycles

Grid code compliance is not optional — and neither is our expertise
A storage system that does not comply with the grid code of its market cannot operate. Our engineering team has the technical depth to ensure full compliance in every market we enter — from the design phase through to commissioning and ongoing operation. We do not subcontract this.

Technical questions answered
What is the minimum project size Nexion works with?
Nexion designs and delivers utility-scale BESS systems from 10 MW upwards. Our standard containerised architecture scales modularly to 500 MW and beyond, making it suitable for standalone grid-scale projects, co-located renewable assets, and large industrial behind-the-meter applications.
Which battery chemistries does Nexion support?
Nexion is technology-independent and works with Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP), Nickel Manganese Cobalt (NMC), and Vanadium Redox Flow Battery (VRFB) chemistries. Chemistry selection is driven by project duration, cycle requirements, and revenue model — not by manufacturer relationships.
Which grid codes and markets does Nexion comply with?
Our systems are designed for grid code compliance across 12 markets, including Spain (REE), Italy (Terna), Portugal (REN), Germany (BNetzA), Poland (PSE), Great Britain (National Grid ESO), Gibraltar, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Colombia, and the Dominican Republic. FCR response time is under 200 ms.
Does Nexion provide EPC or just engineering?
Nexion provides full-cycle delivery: feasibility and design, grid connection engineering, EPC procurement and construction management, commissioning, and long-term O&M with remote monitoring. Clients can engage us at any stage of the project lifecycle.
What round-trip efficiency and cycle life can we expect?
Our systems achieve a round-trip efficiency (RTE) of over 88% and are rated for more than 6,000 full cycles at end-of-life capacity thresholds. Energy density is ≥350 Wh/L. Containers are rated IP55 and operate from -30°C to +50°C.
How long does a utility-scale BESS project take from contract to commissioning?
Typical timelines range from 12 to 24 months depending on project scale, grid connection complexity, and permitting jurisdiction. Nexion manages the full programme, including grid studies, equipment procurement, civil works coordination, and regulatory approvals.
